Assignment 1-4-6 Written Analyses

The first time when I take this class it was uncomfortable and uninterested; it’s because of my stereotype thought about the course. Slowly it became a part of my regular routine and now it’s really amazing I can see everything around me is somehow related with the theories of popular culture. I can see theory of belief and myth that people actually practice in their life. Their icon, ritual, stereotype thought, dream of hero and celebrity, all are belongs to a formula that exist in our society and transferred it generation to generation.

Another development I gain from this class is on my topic. I have chosen “YouTube and its growing popularity” as my popular culture topic. It was picked randomly and didn’t have much idea on it. For me, youtube.com was just an online video gallery to me. But now I think, YouTube has the strong formula to become no 1 online video gallery. The formula that includes icon with positive and negative myth, belief, ritual and stereotype, a habit, sometime act like hero and celebrity.

While thinking about the factors of popular culture in my topic; I found every point is related with it. All of theories are equally related with my topic but icon seems best for “YouTube and its growing popularity”. It is an icon of online video gallery and best in video quality. YouTube have been popular and it is in growing rate, it’s because it’s image on million viewers. If we search for video, then youtube.com come first in our mind and it’s because we have an image of that particular site. It is an icon of online video gallery to million people.

In search of popular culture theory with my topic, I get lots of database that were similar topic some of them seemed to stereotyped, some are myth, some just define hero and celebrity, and some define their topic in formula. The interesting part is people define popular culture theory as they see and as they want. This was interesting for me to read other’s database and tally with mine.  As a result, I got lots of information on my topic that is important and reliable as well as help me to change my perception on the topic. Out of all; I chose the most reliable information and its source for my analysis.
