Any system of attitude, behavior patterns, traditions, belief, values, custom, rituals, taste that identify the mass of a people or entire society is “Popular culture”.

For me, it is a human behavior that demonstrates attitude, belief, custom, rituals and the culture that has been adopted from the beginning. It can be dressing sense, languages, behavior, attitude, thinking style, tempered, etc. that a person carried or impose.

We need to understand the popular culture to stand in our goal in every sector. It can be business, services, hospital, police station, public transportation, or even in our neighborhood. We need to understand them to make our self understandable. In case of our professional career, we must understand other people and their Popular Culture to minimize conflict and building harmony. At the work place; we need to understand boss first, then team members and subordinate to balance a chain and achieve our goal.

For example: Social Loafing
Every organization has a team to accomplish the target. It is human nature everyone become friends and more organizational citizens. But in most of situation, when a friendship became a part of subordinates, it is found social loafing takes place in different ways.

Social loafing is a negative impact of organizational citizenship. The task given to one will be done completely or practically by another. In individual prospective it is okay because of organization is having the work done but for an organization it is a loss of a human recourse as well as pressurize for another staff. Generally it happens while dividing the responsibilities of task. If someone is funny and closer to all then the individual will assign little less than others. It is obvious, that person finished first and then start entertaining others and enjoy the rest of time. In the other hand, rest of team member has to be within the regular schedule with more effort.

I found social loafing in a common ground of plagiarism. In both point, people cheated, use another’s work and kills one’s own creativity. So I chose this topic as an example.

  2. I don't think you necessarily have to understand your boss to work with them. Although it does help to understand where they stand on issues at hand and you understand the chain of command. When working in teams it is always a challenge to keep from a team member from socail loafing. As a lead on a project it is their job to keep this from happening and up to the team members to not allow it.

  3. You have a great definition of "Popular Culture". It is very similar to my own observation of what "Popular Culture" is. I also agree with you that "Social Loafing" does have a negative impact on organizational leadership. Everyone should be treated equally and required to have things done on time (with the given time being the same). Great blog!

  4. I like your personal definition of pop culture. It has been around for a long time and seen in most of our everyday life. Social loafing is a real problem in any business, government or even school classes. The picture you included in your blog says it all.
